New Band member

Dan is originally from Wisconsin. His first group was a polka band where he played lead guitar.  The group eventually turned into a Country/Rock group, which was too rock to play in country venues and too country to play in Rock venues. One of his main groups was a band called Broken Bow which played Country and Contemporary gospel music in and around Taos NM.  Dan also spent some time on tour with Michael Martin Murphy, playing the pedal steel guitar.  In 1992 he retired from music to raise a family and moved to Sierra Vista, AZ where he played lead guitar for the Christian rock group Remnant
On a lark, Dan went out to Tombstone one night to check out RJB for possibly playing in a video of a song he wrote.  The band asked him to sit in for a bit and that was all he needed to realize that we were playing the music closest to his heart.  From that night he was hooked and joined RJB the very next day!

Monument Fire

I was up in Tucson on Sunday picking up some PA gear.  on the way back I got a call from a friend saying that they were evacuating my home area.  By the time I got to the road entrance to my community, the evacuation was in full force.  The only way I got in was that I had a pet there.  They told me to go get her and return immediately.  Needless to say, I also hitched up the band trailer with all our gear in it, put the computer, important papers, photo albums and some cloths and medicines in the jeep and we hightailed it out of there.  The file got to within 3/4 mile of the house. (the picture above taken while we were leaving is as close as it got.

We sat down the road a couple of miles and watched the fire waiting to get back into the house. Took a bunch of pictures, and this one is really neat time exposure which shows the wing light of one of the fire fighting tankers going across the picture.  We were allowed back in at 9pm.
I took this picture from the front porch shortly after 9:30

The fire burned mostly on the mountain all Monday, but on Tuesday it came roaring down Ash Canyon and destroyed a bunch of homes.
Hope that today will be better.  It was burning on the other side of the mountains when I got up at 4am this morning.

Video shoot of Elly May's Biscuits

Had the greatest time in Tombstone last weekend!

We started out on Saturday night to a crowd of Hundreds at the Dragoon Saloon.  It was Wyatt Earp days, and the crowd in town was awesome.  earlier in the day Rowdy did and interview with Dana Cole from the Sierra Vista Herald.  They are going to do two articles on us in the very near future.

On Sunday Justin Kreinbrink of Taz Entertainment in Tucson brought all his equipment and crew down to shoot a video of us doing Elly May's Biscuits at the Helldorado Town Amphitheater.  After about 20 times playing the song, they got enough footage to take it into the studios at Old Tucson and complete the Video.  They are going to bring in some other actors and create a story line around the video footage they shot.  Can't wait, CMT here we come!

We played that night in the amphitheater. It was the grand opening of the music venue.  What a great place to play.  Thanks to Jim Ferguson and crew we all had a great time and are looking forward to coming back.

Radio Play

Thanks to Patty, we are now playing on KWCD 92.3 Radio here in Sierra Vista.  That make two mainstream radio stations that have picked us up!  The first was KRDE 94.1FM "The Ride" in Globe Arizona.  KRDE is a 100,000 watt station with an antenna up on top of Pima Mountain and can be heard all over Phoenix and Tucson.

New Lead Guitarist

We have recently added our last lead guitarist to the band!

Dr. Vance Cast is an internationally best selling author of both children's science books and some thrillers that you should read.  He has played guitar for many years, starting out in classic rock, and gravitating to country music over the last few years.  He has played with Diamond Lil in Branson for the last few years, and has recently returned to Tucson, his birthplace.

"Doc's" classic rock background helps RJB put an edge on our music, as all of you fans know that is what we are about.  You can continue to expect songs that are in the style of other "Country Outlaws" as long as Vance is puttin' in the licks for us.

We all welcome him to the RJB family and look forward to a long association!

Welcome to our new Blog page

Hey fans!

Rowdy and I decided to put a blog page on the website for those of you who want to get more of the inside scoop on what is happening with the Rowdy Johnson Band.  All of us band members are new to the blogosphere, so bear with us as this page develops.

We are really looking forward to our Benefit concert for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) on June 4th.  Rowdy and I have been busy coordinating the various aspects of the project.  We have the approval of the WWP to go ahead, and are just finalizing the details.

We have Neil Russell opening the music for us and look forward to working with him on other projects in the future.  Still waiting to see what the Charlie Daniels Band is sending us for the auction!
